Hello COD, Pastor Bob here with a few new updates.
First of all, I want to thank you for the awesome way we’ve regathered as a congregation, after 14 weeks apart. All of our ministry teams as well as our attenders have done a splendid job setting aside preferences and serving our church. It makes my heart happy!
But as has happened so often throughout this COVID-19 season, the target has kept moving, and it moved once again yesterday, when in response to some surges of the Coronavirus, our governing authorities here in PA are now requiring that facemasks be worn in any indoor location where members of the public are gathering. That includes us.
Throughout this time of Coronavirus, we’ve sought as a church to hold to the dual principles of honoring our governing authorities and responding in love toward our neighbor. Scripture teaches us that we should “be subject to the governing authorities” Romans 13:1, and at the same time “in humility value others above ourselves, not looking to your own interests but each of you to the interests of others”, Phil. 4:3-4.
So, starting this Sunday, July 5 and until the authorities relax this requirement, we’re requiring that everyone who attends our worship services wear a mask, except for those two years of age and younger, and those ministering on the platforms. This is not a decision made out of fear or politics. This is a wisdom decision that will require many of us to set aside our preferences, and for the ultimate good of others, wear a mask. Let me emphasize that this is for a 50-minute service, so let me encourage you to set aside any hesitations and worship with your church family wearing a mask.
At our EYC our services will be at 9:30 and 11:00 in the Worship Center, and for this Sunday at the WYC our services will be at 8:00, 9:30 and 11:00 in the Family Life Center. We will not have childcare or Kids ministries, but WE LOVE FAMILIES and encourage you to bring your children to our services. We disinfect commonly used surfaces between services, and have hand sanitizer, bottled water, and masks available for any who might need them. Our Guest Services people will be there to assist you.
So that we can properly physically distance, we ask you to register here for the service you will be attending. If you’ve already registered, there’s no need to register again.
We know that many of you are not yet ready to return to our buildings. We understand. Our online church services and Comcast channel 16 broadcast will continue. Thanks for hanging with us and supporting us during these unique times! As a reminder, the church offices will be closed on Friday, July 3rd in observance of the July 4th holiday.
This coming Sunday we have the opportunity to truly put into practice the words of Jesus, as our “Jesus Said” series takes us to John 17:20-23. There Jesus prays for our unity as a church and tells us that when we come together in unity, the world sees we have something they desperately need and are led to follow Jesus as well. Wow, what a powerful message for these divided times! May the world watch us here at COD and see what it means to know the Lord!
God bless you!
